Today I had the pleasure of fishing with an expert fisherman. This is the same man that taught me how to hunt and fish as a kid. My dad can catch a fish just by singing crazy songs. Though his hearing is not as good as it once was, and I’m sure a deer would sneak right up on him, he sure has not lost his ability to catch a big fat bass.
Early this morning we were throwing topwater plugs in about 5ft of water. It’s late May but the water is just now starting to warm enough for the rockfish to bust it on the surface. It seems like every time we fish together, I get lucky. After catching my third fish and one good one that was too big to keep, I started calling him my good luck charm.
He decided to change his lure over to a blue and white rapala he calls bluebird, and he had one bust it hard but not grab it. Keeping his cool, he kept walking that dog and sweet talking that fish into hitting his lure 2 more times before hooking it like a real pro. Yes, it is in the freezer.
